The Harbor Oaks Place Inc (also known as Harbor Oaks Residential District) is a historic district in Clearwater, Florida, that was designated as such on March 15, 1988. Druid Road, South Fort Harrison Avenue, Lotus Path, and Clearwater Harbor are the boundaries of the district. It has 81 historic structures and 6 artifacts. Harbor Oaks, a community of around 80 residences in Clearwater, is claimed to be the city’s first planned development. It was built in 1913 by New York tycoon Dean Alvord and his son, Donald, who saw it as an excellent place for rich Northerners to spend their winters. The residences are luxurious and opulent, yet pleasant and inviting. The streets are tree-lined, with some having landscaped medians and some sloping down to the Clearwater Harbor. It’s similar to West Palm Beach, but with larger lots and fewer 30-foot hedges. The development included novel features like underground utilities, paved roadways, curbs and walkways, a sewer system, and tree-lined parkways, bringing modern planning principles to Pinellas County. Deed limitations resulted in a diverse architectural mix, including exceptional examples of Mediterranean Revival, Colonial Revival, Tudor Revival, Mission, and Bungalow styles. Harbor Oaks was dubbed “the Riviera of the Sunny South” and “the best seaside development on Florida’s west coast” by local publications. By 1930, the project had been finished to a large extent. Author Rex Beach, Brooklyn Dodgers owner Charles Ebbett, inventor Donald Roebling, entrepreneur Robert Ingersoll, and members of the Studebaker and Proctor & Gamble families have all lived in Harbor Oaks. In 1988, the National Register of Historic Places included the Harbor Oaks Historic District on its registry. Single-family homes are available in this neighborhood at a variety of pricing points, with many boasting luxury facilities that you must see for yourself. If you’re seeking architectural beauty and character, go no farther than these one-of-a-kind mansions, some of which were erected in the 1920s and 1930s. Along with some prominent Florida classic homes, you’ll discover Colonial Revivals, Tudors, Cape Cods, Bungalows, and Classic designs. The community is graced by majestic oak trees, and you’ll often see your neighbors strolling or relaxing on their shaded front porches. You may stroll or ride your bike across the Clearwater Bridge to the world-famous Clearwater Beach, which has sugar sand and infinite beauty in every direction. Stores, banks, beauty salons, and restaurants are all within walking distance. Something close to the beach yet a little less crowded and more relaxed.
